Find out why

You need to find out exactly what is causing your laziness. While feeling lazy is completely normal, sometimes it can be a symptom of an underlying condition that needs medical attention. So you need to find out what is really causing your lazy tendencies.

Sometimes it might just be due to working yourself too much causing burn out. In this case, you need to find some time to rest and recharge.

However, if you are just lazy by nature and would rather be relaxing instead of doing important things in your life, here are some few tips that can help you to get over the laziness.

Find Your Passion

This is the most important tip in getting rid of laziness. If you are not doing something that you are passionate about, you will constantly feel lazy. So, make sure you get into something that you are passionate about.

However, even though you may have a passion for something, laziness still kicks in. When this happens, remind yourself why you started doing it in the first place.

You must have had a passion for it at some point, or you wouldn’t be bothering with it. Remind yourself of the good points of the work, not just the parts that you do not enjoy.

Don’t overthink things

Avoid dwelling on how long it’s going to take to do your tasks. Just think on how you have to get started and when you are done with that, think of the next thing you have to do.

For example, if you have to type an assignment, start by just opening your laptop and switching it on. Pull out the chair on your desk and sit. You will find that the next step just comes naturally and you start typing. Before you know it, you would have accomplished the task.

Start doing it immediately

If you are feeling lazy to do something, don’t think about it. Just start doing it immediately. You will find that as you do the task, you will gain momentum and might even enjoy it. Once you start, you will not want to stop until you finish.

Break it down

Most times, we want to do everything at one go. This usually does not work out well.

People work more efficiently when they have ample rest time. Working in short, focused bursts is more effective than trying to do everything at once.

Learn to divide your tasks and prioritize them accordingly.

If you can’t think of all the steps in advance, just write out the next 2-3 steps.

Smaller tasks are generally easier to tackle, ensuring you are more likely to stay focused on getting each mini task achieved.

Avoid distraction

If you find yourself distracted and feeling lazy, cut out all the distractions around your work space.

Avoid social media and consider investing in a distraction free app that will block you from specified sites for allocated periods of time.

Avoid other distractions such as TV and clear your work area so the ambience is convenient for work.

Make time for breaks

Take regular breaks while working. Your brain needs a rest from time to time to time.

Taking breaks will also re-energize you and motivate you for the next task on your list.

Ask for Help or Support

Sometimes, we just need a little help. There’s nothing wrong with asking for help from friends, colleagues or family members.

This is a useful way to get you up and moving, because they will motivate you to do the task.
